You can win your battle against throat cancer with a positive attitude. But first, it’s critical not to ignore the signs of cancer in your throat. This form of cancer is highly treatable – especially if you catch the condition early. Small tumors in the throat can be removed with relatively little damage.
The Mayo Clinic defines cancer of the throat as cancer of the throat, voice box, or tonsils. This cancer, which is not as common as other cancers, usually begins in the flat cells on the inside of the throat, the pharynx. Throat-related cancer can also damage the epiglottis, which is the cover of the windpipe.
If cancer spreads before being detected, the prognosis is less positive. To eradicate the cancerous cells, surgeons might have to remove parts of your vocal cords, jaw, voice box, tonsils, and oropharynx. Therefore, it’s essential to check with your doctor if you develop symptoms that persist for a long time.
RISK FACTORS FOR THROAT CANCER
Men are more susceptible to throat cancer than women. Key lifestyle habits can put you at higher risk. These risky behaviors include:
The Mayo Clinic offers these five tips for reducing your risks of developing any cancer and improving your general health:
That means eating raw foods, avoiding added sugars, and consuming whole grains. Lower your consumption of red meat, fats, and processed food.
Take up a hobby or sport that keeps you physically active – even if it’s just going for a walk in different parts of your hometown. Older people can make social connections and get healthy exercise in a safe environment by power-walking at a local mall in the morning.
Sexually transmitted infections are common among those who have unprotected sex with multiple partners, and these viral and bacterial infections can weaken your body – even when there are no visible symptoms. Avoid any practices that tear the skin or cause bleeding.
It’s essential to know your partners, avoid drugs and alcohol that impair your judgment.
EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF CANCER OF THE THROAT
The top 10 early warning symptoms of cancer of the throat, according to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, include:
1. SORE THROAT
The early stages of disease almost always generate a sore throat. Unlike cold- and flu-based soreness, the pain doesn’t go away in a few days.
2. WEIGHT LOSS
Any form of cancer usually results in loss of weight. Throat pain can make it even more challenging to eat and swallow normally so that weight loss can be fast and severe.
3. VOCAL CHANGES
Your voice often changes when you develop cancer in the throat. That’s where the voice box resides. Both laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers can cause hoarseness and changes in the sound of your voice.
According to the Rogel Cancer Center, laryngeal cancer often targets the vocal cords, but the good news is that these tumors are relatively easy to find and remove. Cancer that doesn’t start on the vocal cords is usually more developed by the time hoarseness occurs. Slurred words,
4. PROBLEMS SWALLOWING
It’s common to have difficulties swallowing food normally. Food often reels as if it sticks in the throat. You might feel a burning sensation when you try to swallow.
5. FINDING A LUMP IN THE NECK
Enlarged lymph nodes are a significant symptom of many types of cancer. The nodes in the neck are located right below the back of the lower jaw on each side. There are many possible causes of enlarged lymph nodes, which include the common cold. Nodes that keep growing and don’t swell and shrink are critical signs to see your doctor.
Persistent coughing that doesn’t improve is a telling symptom – especially if you begin to cough up blood. Smokers should be able to detect the difference in smoker’s cough and cancer-related coughing.
7. TROUBLE OPENING YOUR MOUTH NORMALLY
You might develop problems opening your mouth and chewing your food.
8. LUMP IN THE JAW, NECK OR MOUTH
It’s not just the lymph nodes that are symptoms of oral cancer. If you find a bump anywhere in the mouth, jaw, throat, or neck, you should see a doctor immediately.
Nosebleeds are common symptoms of oral cancers – especially if you’re not usually susceptible to them.
Headaches are frequent, and they can range from behind the eyes to full-on migraine-type events. The pain might extend into the neck and shoulders.
If you develop any of these symptoms that persist for more than a few days, you should see your doctor immediately. Throat cancer can be treated with great success in the early stages, but don’t give up hope if the disease is in the advanced stages.
THROAT CANCER TREATMENT OPTIONS
Treatment options for cancers of the throat include the standard arsenal of cancer treatments:
During surgery, the surgeon will attempt to remove all traces of cancerous growths on the pharynx, larynx, and tonsils.
A course of chemical therapy is used to kill cancerous cells and tumors.
Radiation TherapyDoctors use radiation to kill cancerous growth while hoping not to damage healthy tissue. Radiation is often used to treat chronic cases of cancer in the throat.
This treatment combines the benefits of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It’s often used for laryngeal cancer to preserve the voice box. The technique is also used as a substitute for surgery.
PAIN MANAGEMENT FOR THROAT CANCER
Despite medical advances, cancer diagnoses are still horrifying causes of stress and anxiety. According to one research paper, managing the pain of cancer is still a tricky guessing game. Less than half of patients get what they feel as adequate pain medication.
Substandard pain management can prove extremely debilitating, and the lack of energy aggravates cancer. It’s been proven many times that staying active is one of the best ways to fight the disease. You might want to consider mind-body control techniques to manage your pain – such as yoga and breathing exercises.
A recent study discovered a new option for managing pain, which is called cryoneurolysis treatment. During this therapy, nerves are frozen to block them from transmitting pain signals.
USING TRADITIONAL HEALING METHODS IN FIGHTING CANCER
Mental energy can often marshall your physical resources to prevent or fight cancer. There are no clinically proven ways to avoid cancer of the throat – except these four strategies, outlined by the cited Mayo Clinic article:
Bees are disappearing globally, due to habitat loss and modern industrial farming methods. Being among the most important pollinators, as it is estimated that one-third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees.
Additionally, honey and wax are two other important products that come courtesy of bees. As the state of their population becomes growingly alarming, people have started to seek innovative ways to find a solution.
Yet, have you ever thought you can alleviate this issue from the comfort of your home? What’s more, what if you could do so by decorating your living space?
Well, BEEcosystem has found a way, by creating their innovative wall-mounted observation hives. You can now mount these amazing beehives wherever there is a nearby window in your home.
Designers Dustin Betz and Mike Zaengle created the observation hives to give us the opportunity to personally contribute to fixing the bee population problem.
“We feel the BEEcosystem hive can add tons of value to eco- and agri-tourism businesses. And the Ambassador Program will allow more of those businesses to purchase our product without having to have someone in-house manage the hive—this network will also help to educate the next generation of beekeepers, and greatly increase the reach of our social impact.”
Their hexagonal, honeycomb style is completely safe even for novice bee-keepers.
Co-founder Mike Zaengle adds that their product is suitable for residential, urban living:
“BEEcosystem works well for renters because it features a window exit unit that fits into practically any sliding window. There’s a tube that the bees crawl through to get outside to fly, then they return through it to get back to the hive. You don’t have to drill a hole in your wall; you just need to mount a bracket. It’s very non-invasive.
This will be the first display hive we know of that will ship with the colony of bees already installed. With other hives, the beekeeper purchases a package of bees that are delivered through the mail, and then pours them into the hive—which can be very intimidating for a first-time beekeeper! With BEEcosystem, your hive installation is simplified.”
They offer an opportunity to watch the hard-working insects creating honeycomb and beeswax while contributing to their survival.
The main goal of the product is to bring people and bees closer together and strengthen this bond. Unlike other indoor observation beehives, these ones are scalable, flexible, and come with a simple wall mounting bracket and a plug-in tube.
According to BEEcosystem’s website:
“From our design perspective, we wanted to create an observation hive that intentionally provokes meaningful conversations about honeybees, especially engaging non-beekeepers and non-agricultural experts. In deliberately differing BEEcosystem from existing styles of observation hives, we celebrate a fusion of old and new ideas in apiculture: an emergent hive form, with a familiar removable top-bar hive frame functionality.
Beginning in 2014, we prototyped and field-tested the expandable top-bar observation hive design for 2 years, overwintering in the 4-season climate of central Pennsylvania, USA, before beginning to sell the BEEcosystem hive commercially in Spring 2017.
With a slim wall-mounted profile that can be incorporated into nontraditional beekeeping spaces and new kinds of observation displays, each BEEcosystem unit or “HexHive” box contains six top-bar frames from which bees build foundationless comb.”
So, do you find the pragmatic design of these beehives convenient for the interior of your home?

The Swedish company IKEA is always leading in terms of initiation and creativity when it comes to their projects.
Namely, this company worked hard to raise awareness about the plight in Syria, had an environmental-friendly project that uses mushroom-based packaging that decomposes within weeks, have a furniture business which is progressive, and much more.
Forbes ranks IKEA’s brand as the 46th most valuable on the planet (at $11.9 billion) and annual revenues are just shy of $40 billion, gained from its 345 stores in 42 different countries. The company has a customers-first purpose and a customers-first business plan, and it also instituted the “Human Resource Idea.”
According to this business magazine:
“In this day and age, an organization ought to commit to delighting its customers, remembering why the organization exists in the first place. If there are no customers, there is unlikely to be an organization. If there is no organization, somewhat obviously there are no roles.
Put simply, if the organization does not delight its customers—the people it ought to be working for—neither team members nor the organization can reach the sweet spot for there will be a damaged organization left remaining to carry out its mission.
This Swedish company—formed in 1943 by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad—continues to demonstrate the mantra of always putting customers first and subsequently impressing them. There is no other or ulterior motive at IKEA. It has continued to dedicate itself to value and service, always in appreciation for—and solely intended to delight—its customer base.”
Now, IKEA has released open source plans for The Growroom, which is a large, multi-tiered spherical garden designed to sustainably grow enough food to feed a neighborhood.
IKEA made these plans free for people to be able to invest and create such a garden in their neighborhood. The instructions comprise of 17 steps, and one only needs metal screws, plywood, rubber hammers, and diligence to finish the project.
According to the Huffington Post, the instructions can be downloaded for free and guide the builder through the steps. Users need to cut the plywood pieces to size and then visit a local workshop where the wood can be professionally cut.
The Growroom is the brainchild of Space10, based in Denmark. The company explains:
“Local food represents a serious alternative to the global food model. It reduces food miles, our pressure on the environment, and educates our children of where food actually comes from. … The challenge is that traditional farming takes up a lot of space and space is a scarce resource in our urban environments.
The Growroom …is designed to support our everyday sense of well being in the cities by creating a small oasis or ‘pause’ architecture in our high paced societal scenery, and enables people to connect with nature as we smell and taste the abundance of herbs and plants. The pavilion, built as a sphere, can stand freely in any context and points in a direction of expanding contemporary and shared architecture.”

How far can humans go to satisfy their vices? Our immoral tendencies and desires to control everything around us are revealed in the countless times we have subjected animals and our environment to brutal and unethical actions.
We live in a delusion that we are omnipotent, and we possess the planet we inhabit, but we are on the wrong track.
Animals rights activists and organizations like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) have been objecting to the practice of the world-famous fashion designer Louis Vuitton to use of crocodile skins in its products.
They have exposed the cruel conditions at the crocodile farms on numerous occasions.
In 2017, PETA bought a significant stake in Louis Vuitton’s parent company, the French luxury goods retailer Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, LVMH, to get access to shareholder meetings and question executives about their business practices of using exotic animal skins in the production of leather goods and clothes.
Ingrid Newkirk, the president of Peta, wrote:
“Every Peta exposé of the exotic-skins industry has found sensitive living beings crammed into filthy pits, hacked apart, and left to die. From demonstrating on the street to speaking up in the boardroom, Peta will push LVMH to stop selling any bag, watchband, or shoe made from a reptile’s skin.”
The constant pressure made LVMH promise to change its policy and ensure a “responsible supply” of crocodile skins. Its new attitude would allegedly ensure “the preservation of the species and the respect of local communities”, animal well-being, working conditions on the farms and the protection of the environment.
This announcement did not convince PETA, which stated:
“LVMH’s assurances of “responsibly-supplied” crocodile skin are tosh, given that it will apparently take the company nearly two years to get around to ensuring pretty much nothing.
Most importantly, the standard won’t prevent the worst of the cruel practices: the method of slaughter, which consists of cutting the back of the crocodile’s neck and thrusting a metal rod down the live animal’s spine, causing unimaginable agony.”
The PETA spokesperson also spoke about the promise of other fashion designers like Chanel, Victoria Beckham, Vivienne Westwood, and Diane von Furstenberg, to stop turning “exotic animals into fashion accessories.”
Some of the fashion accessories on Louis Vuitton’s website are sold for as much as £31,000.
LVMH stated that they will start treating the animals with compassion while they are killed, but did not specify the way the entire process has changed.
A video recorded in Vietnam during a PETA investigation exposed the horrors that happen on reptile farms, where crocodiles are raised and killed to make “luxury” leather bags. According to a farm owner, two of the farms supply skins of these reptiles to Louis Vuitton’s parent company, LVMH, and “some of the biggest brands.”
The sufferings revealed will leave you speechless.
Crocodiles are initially electroshocked, so that workers can catch them, and move them to the farms, where they live in concrete walls and dirt water for up to 15 months, waiting to be slaughtered.
Then, workers attempt to kill them by cutting into their necks and ramming metal rods down their spines, while the poor reptiles shake vigorously.
Afterward, they cut and pull off their skin, often while the poor animals are still moving and bleeding.
According to PETA, a reptile expert who watched the footage stated that “the neck incisions would have been very painful and inhumane,” and “There is no probability that these animals ‘died instantly.”
PETA and other animal rights organizations are still fighting against this practice, as they suspect that LVMH will improve animal standards and attitudes.
The charity website campaigns:
“PETA has exposed cruelty at reptile farms on three continents, and the story is always the same: grim, close confinement and violent death. Before buying items made out of exotic skins like these, please stop and think of the animals they come from and their intense suffering. Don’t support this cruelty with your purchases.”
The video has now gone viral, and after the initial shock, people are taking action and have started a petition to urge LVMH to stop the horror these animals are subjected to.
Pancreas, the gland organ in the abdomen is part of the digestive system. It has exocrine and endocrine functions. The two important functions of the pancreas are digestion and regulation of insulin in the blood.
It releases digestive enzymes trypsin, chymotrypsin, amylase, lipase that break down proteins, carbohydrates and fats. It helps in the conversion of food into fuel and releases energy.
Pancreases are also composed of islets of Langerhans that release two important hormones, insulin and glucagon. Insulin is important to regulate blood sugar in the body.
A certain diabetic population is advised to take insulin injections to control blood sugar. Glucagon helps in controlling raised blood sugar levels. The two hormones work in conjunction with each other.
A high blood sugar level affects the kidney, liver, heart, and brain. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer and early detection and treatment is difficult. Pancreatic cancer patients can survive for about 5 years.
There will not be any sudden onset of the disease without producing signs and symptoms, an individual should analyze the compromised working of the body to detect diseases and early intervention.
7 Symptoms of Pancreas Problems:
1. Changes in the Stool:
In people suffering from pancreatic diseases, there will be an incomplete breakdown of the food (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats). The pancreas is also responsible for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, E and K).
As the oily ingredients do not get absorbed, you can find the stool will be sticky and oily in texture and also the region, the same can also be seen in the tissue paper.
There will be inadequate nutrients for absorption. Due to the lack of nutrients the stool will be lighter in color and less dense. Another indication of the pancreatic disease is, the stool will be floating.
The impaired release of the digestive enzymes causes changes in the stool. In pancreatitis, the stools will be oily and smelly (steatorrhea). Do consult your doctor if you see any of these symptoms as early intervention can help in early diagnosis and treatment.
2. Abdominal Pain:
It can be an indication of pancreatic cancer and or pancreatitis. Both the disease needs prompt attention and should immediately consult a doctor. The intensity of pain varies depending upon the underlying condition.
The pain in the middle of your abdomen or lower back can be an indication of pancreatic cancer. The doctor often mistakes the pancreatic pain to acid reflux or GERD and prescribe medicines for it.
The symptoms of abdominal pain won’t show any symptoms of improvement with anti-ulcer or pain medications. The pancreatic pain will be sudden and intense with severity in the middle of your abdomen.
The pancreas has endocrine functions that release hormone insulin in the body. If there is any damage to the pancreas then there will be decreased or impaired release of insulin.
An individual with ideal weight, a healthy diet and exercise who still experience a rise in blood sugar, it requires a proper examination to identify the exact cause.
If there is a sudden increase in the blood sugar levels without any specific reasons, your doctor may advise you to check for the functioning of the pancreas.
Such individuals find it hard to control sugar with regular medications. People suffering from diabetes either have low insulin released or the insulin receptors become insensitive.
Sudden onset of diabetes or suddenly increased levels of sugars is an indication that your pancreas needs attention.
4. Nausea and Vomiting:
The pancreas is associated with the digestive system, and any malfunctioning in the pancreas affects the digestive process. Pancreatic enzymes are responsible for the breakdown of fatty food and the fat-digesting capacity.
Especially when taking fatty foods, people feel nauseated. People with compromised pancreas should avoid all kinds of fatty fruits, nuts, vegetables, and foods. Nausea and vomiting can be due to pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.
5. Weight loss:
If there is constant and steady weight loss along with pain in the abdomen, then it is likely that the weight loss is associated with pancreatic diseases.
One should also not rule out the possibility of thyroid diseases or other health conditions. If you see persistent weight loss than make sure you visit a doctor and do a complete examination.
In pancreatic cancer, the cancer cells grow and block the bile duct that impairs the release of bile juice. The bile build’s up in the blood that turns skin and eyes yellow.
People suffering from jaundice have itching, dark urine, and light-colored stools.
There is frequent bloating and gas build-u in the body. Ascites causes the abdomen to swell and stretch out.
Do’s and Don’ts in Pancreatic Disease:
Discuss your signs and symptoms of the disease with the doctor and utilize the services of a dietician. A nutritious diet considering the changes in the body is important.
Indigestion, weight loss, bloating, jaundice, nausea, and vomiting may sound an indication of acidity and indigestion or jaundice, but it can also indicate your pancreas is in trouble.
If the above symptoms are accompanied by abdominal pain, it can indicate pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer; such patients should see a doctor immediately.
The disease may worsen with time; hence control of diet and medical supervision is important. Avoid the intake of fatty food as the compromised pancreas cannot digest it.
